Community-developed VPN configurations

info

This page is for VPN configurations to allow campus users to connect to the Campus VPN from wireless or off-campus connections. You might also be interested in the Community-developed IllinoisNet (WPA2) configurations which allow you to connect to the secure campus wireless network.

Post your Linux and smartphone VPN configurations here

The Help Desk officially supports Windows and Mac users, but doesn’t have enough equipment to support all the flavors of Unix, Linux, and smartphones that the campus community runs.

This page allows the campus community to gather up our VPN configuration notes for Unix/Linux operating systems and smartphones. Anyone with a Linux variant or a smartphone can contribute to this page.

faq

The VPN configuration guidelines and VPN for Linux pages may help you work out a new VPN configuration.

Posting guidelines

In the alphabetical list below, create a page for your system by choosing one of the pages below and clicking Duplicate Page in the top black toolbar.

Edit your new page, including updating the title (which, by default, will include the title of the page you copied and the word Copy.)

When you return to this index page, add your new page to the list.

(Creating subpages for each OS will allow us to keep the comment threads associated with the particular system they apply to.)

Older configurations in need of updates

The following configurations were written for a previous VPN system and may need updates in order to work with the latest VPN (provided by Cisco and usually accessed through AnyConnect client software or through vpn.cites.illinois.edu. If you see vpn3.near.illinois.edu, these instructions need updating.)
