dropbox

  • de-duplicatioin
  • encrypt file, don’t encrypt metadata
  • consumer grade

box.net

  • enterprise product
  • discounted when talked with Corn – $10/person/year
  • Internet 2 website – net plus services
    • early adopters
    • about $1.8/person/year
    • includes internet2 extra storage
    • 200 TB and 100,000 users
    • investigating if unit wants more storage can buy in 10 TB chunks
    • replicating across data center – not counting against our 200 TB
    • plus backup
    • so really 600 TB is part of the deal
    • currently all data is in North America
    • FERPA agreement in place
    • HIPPA agreement is coming soon
    • Don’t sign up under UofI address if you want to play
    • getting enterprise service
    • there is an api
    • google integration is there
    • bad at group management
    • working on using external groups (like AD)
    • authentication – incommon – shibboleth
      • working to integrate the 3 campus shibboleth
    • figuring out who would use it – plan to all fac, stff, students
    • contractually limited to synching accounts
      • not sure who will get this
    • teams across the campus’s being formed
    • really aimed at a person, not at the unit or service accounts
    • deprovisioning has not been worked out yet
    • hoping to have agreements in place Jan
    • flood gates probably open in Apr
    • Central admin can impersonate a user in the event of death, sick, etc.
    • accessibility is a little weak and we are helping to fix that
    • can we get accounts to play with?

google accounts for fac/staff – no timeline yet

expecting an agreement with Amazon and Internet2
