IllinoisNet Wireless – Android 1.5

Contributed by to CCSP:

I have an Android-based phone (HTC Hero) which runs an older version of the Android OS (ver. 1.5) and can successfully connect to the university’s WPA2 wireless network. I don’t know how much has changed between 1.5 and 2.0 of the Android OS, but I would hope that 2.0 can still connect to our WPA2 wireless network (without having to root the phone).

Below are the settings I use on my phone to configure the connection to our WPA2 network:

1) Go into the main menu and select “Settings”

2) Select “Wireless Controls”

3) Select “Wi-Fi Settings”

4) Make sure “Wi-Fi” is enabled here

5) Make sure “Network notification” is enabled so it will scan and show you the currently available wireless networks

6) Select the UIwpa2 network

7) Set EAP type to: PEAP

8) Set Sub type to: PEAPv0/MSCHAPv2

9) Set your UIUC username and password (Note: you do not need to put “UIUC\” before your username here)

That should be it.

Hope that helps.
